4. SHIMANO Ultegra RD-RX800 Rear Derailleur
Description
Outfit your all-road or CX bike with Shimano’s Ultegra RD-RX800 Rear Derailleur and enjoy increased chain tension thanks to its mountain bike technology offering better chain management and less noise over rougher roads and gravel. Just like we’re accustomed to on its mountain rear derailleurs, a flip of the lever engages and disengages the clutch. When in the on position, the clutch increases the spring force to provide crisp shifting and zero chain slap and is easily flipped off for wheel changes. This is Shimano’s first rear derailleur featuring a clutch for drop bar bikes and since it works with both 1x and 2x setups, we feel it’s a must-have for gravel and ‘cross bikes. Following in the footsteps of the revamped Dura-Ace and Ultegra groups, this RX derailleur gets its Shadow cage treatment placing it closer to the frame and under the cassette keeping it out of harm’s way and less likely to take the brunt of a driveside crash. This also allows the derailleur to move in a much more linear path allowing for shorter throws with less effort. It comes in one cage length, long, which accommodates an 11-34t cassette allowing for a wide range gear ratio when paired with a double without the usual huge jumps between the cogs like on a 1x setup. Sitting under the Ultegra umbrella means it gets the usual materials and finishes that we expect from a groupset that’s just one step from the top. Its weight, smoothness, and durability make it more than capable of racing against the competition on course, or the sun to your campsite for the night on a bikepacking trip.
5. SRAM Nx 1X11 Long Cage Rear Derailleur
Description
The SRAM NX X-HORIZON rear derailleur provides the same smooth, reliable shifting action as XX1-from the larger upper pulley offset to the 12-tooth X-SYNC pulley wheels. Given its appropriation of SRAM’s pricier one-by tech, the NX 1×11 rear derailleur is compatible with all of SRAM’s one-by drivetrains for precise shifting. The NX 1×11 rear derailleur packs in SRAM’s top one-by engineering to ensure rear shifts are smooth, accurate, and predictable. Starting with the offset pulleys, the tall square-toothed X-SYNC profiles work to positively engage and manage the chain better than traditional pulleys. These pulleys work in conjunction with the X-HORIZON’s straight parallelogram design, which limits all movement to the horizontal axis, thus eliminating ghost shifting and reducing shifting force. SRAM’s proven Roller Bearing Clutch is also present, which delivers maximum drivetrain stability by maintaining consistent tension on the chain – even while riding in the most demanding conditions. SRAM’s handy CAGE LOCK technology caps things off and keeps the derailleur locked out of the way when needed for easy rear wheel removal and installation.
6. SRAM Force Rear Derailleur WiFli- Medium
Description
Other than the Double Tap shift lever, perhaps no component in the SRAM road component family represents a greater departure from familiar mechanical territory than the Force Rear Derailleur. It’s a bit of a technical story, but it’s one whose benefits are evident the first time you run through your gears: You’ll experience crisper, more precise shifting than you’ve ever felt before. Virtually every rear derailleur you’ve ever used, pre-Force, was built around 3 springs: The B-position spring, the pivot spring, and the parallelogram spring. What SRAM learned as they developed their rear derailleur, though, was that a 2-spring system built with more powerful springs outperforms the 3-spring standard. By eliminating the B-position spring and fixing your derailleur’s B-position in place, the Force derailleur better manages the gap between the guide pulley and your cassette cog. The stout strength of the springs is directly related to the inherent mechanical advantage of the Force Double Tap shifter. Strength requires strength, and it results in punchy, quick shifts. The other half of the story is SRAM’s Exact Actuation technology. Most rear derailleurs pull slightly different amounts of cable depending on which end of the gearing spectrum they’re in. You can feel this when the first few cogs of your non-SRAM system shift perfectly, and then the shifts are off. With Exact Actuation, the Force derailleur pulls the same amount of cable (and thereby moves the derailleur the same distance) with every click, no matter what gear you’re in. Each click gives you a predictable 3mm of cable pull. Thanks to the 2-spring design and Exact Actuation, the Force rear derailleur is perhaps the most user-friendly derailleur we’ve ever seen.

Rear Derailleur Tutorial:
1. Completely loose the rear shift line, the chain hanging in the flywheel after the smallest teeth, turn the crankset.
2. If the chain always goes outside the flywheel, clockwise twist the H screw slowly; if the chain goes to the second flywheel, relax the rear derailleur H screw counterclockwise.
3. The second step, close the rear shift line, you can directly adjust the rear shift line, and at the same time turn the crankset.
If the chain goes out of the flywheel to the direction of the spokes, clockwise twist the L screw slowly, until to the maximum flywheel and not fall chain as the standard.
If the hand can not adjust the rear shift line be on the largest piece of gear of flywheel, then counterclockwise release the L screws slowly.

8. Shimano Deore XT RD-M786 SGS Shadow Plus Rear Derailleur
Description
Where do we start? The Shimano XT RD M786 Shadow Plus Rear Derailleur has so much going for it we’re almost at a loss for words. Almost. Let’s start with Shimano’s new direct mounting system. If your frame is relatively new, chances are you’ll be able to mount the RD-M786 without using a hanger. That means less flex, less wear, lighter weigh and fast and simple wheel changes with thru axles. If your bike still uses a hanger, no worries, because the XT Shadow Plus RD-M786 rear derailleur comes with a removable B-Link that’s pre-installed for use with hangers.
Another feature we like is the XT Shadow Plus rear derailleur’s new clutch system. A trickle-down bit of technology that debuted in the XTR Shadow Plus rear derailleur, it makes shifting easier, more consistent and quieter by allowing you to increase spring tension with the flip of a switch. If you’ve been experiencing the occasional dropped chain on your full-suspension rig, this feature’s going to be worth its weight in gold.

In the more-of-the-same department (and we mean that in a good way), the RD-M786 retains all of the features that made the previous version one of our favorite rear derailleurs–strong and lightweight aluminum construction throughout, direct cable path routing and the Shadow’s impact-reducing low-profile design. With a maximum chainwrap capacity of 35T, the Shimano XT Shadow Plus is ideal for 2X10 setups.
